Large volcanic block, crossed by the Loire High Valley, the Velay is organized around its pious and industrious capital, Le Puy-en-Velay ...



Once related to the Languedoc, the Velay is marked by influences both Mediterranean and of the Rhône-Alpes. Very sunny, it is a dream spot for hikers and paragliders who appreciate its heights. It's also a major fishing site thanks to many fish bearing rivers.



Volcanic outcrops, rocky breaches and famous lentil "du Puy" are the major assets of Bassin du Puy, set in the center of the region.

South of Le Puy, the Devès plateau (1421 m) unfolds its fields of lentils and wheat, dotted with small villages with black volcanic stone houses.

In the west, small volcanic mounts (Mont Mezenc and Pic of Lizieux) offer nice panoramas ...

Volcanic stone arrows, valleys streaked with ravines and forests : such is the Pays des Sucs...



Le Puy area is full of typical villages, where lacemakers houses, churches and castles can still be seen.



Le Puy-en-Velay, starting point for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella, is overlooked by the Corneille Rock topped by an awesome 16 meters hign Madonna. The old city and its medieval facades, Notre-Dame-de-France Cathedral, Saint-Michel Romanesque chapel, perched on a 82 meters high rocky outcrop, and the Lace conservatoire are absolute must sees ...
